Brenda Austin-Smith
President

Brenda Austin-Smith was re-elected to a third term as president of CAUT. Austin-Smith, a professor of film studies at the University of Manitoba, has also served on the executive committee as CAUT vice-president (2016 to 2019), as representative-at-large (General) (2014 to 2016), and as chair of the collective bargaining and economic benefits committee (2010 to 2014). She has also served as vice-president and president of the University of Manitoba Faculty Association.

Peter McInnis
Vice-President

Peter McInnis, a professor of history at St. Francis Xavier University, was re-elected to a third term as vice-president of CAUT. He has also served on the executive committee as chair of CAUT’s academic freedom and tenure committee (2015 to 2019), and as representative-at-large (general) (2014 to 2015). McInnis has also served on the executive of the Association of Nova Scotia University Teachers and is a former president of the St. Francis Xavier Association of University Teachers.

Yalla Sangaré
Treasurer

Yalla Sangaré, a finance professor at Université Sainte Anne, was re-elected in 2020 for a third two-year term as treasurer of CAUT. Sangaré also served three terms as representative-at-large (Francophone) (2012 to 2015) and for eight years as a member of the Francophones’ committee.

James Compton
Past President

James Compton, a professor of information and media studies at Western University, is serving on the executive committee as CAUT past president. Compton served on the executive as CAUT president (2016 to 2019), as CAUT vice-president (2014 to 2016), and as representative-at-large (general) (2012 to 2014). Compton was president of the University of Western Ontario Faculty Association from 2010 to 2011.

Priscilla Settee
Representative-at-Large (Aboriginal)

Priscilla Settee was elected to a one-year term as representative-at-large (Aboriginal). A professor of Indigenous studies at the University of Saskatchewan, Settee has been a member of the Aboriginal post-secondary Education working group at CAUT for the past five years and has served as an executive member of the University of Saskatchewan Faculty Association. She is presently serving as a representative to the Saskatchewan Federation of Labour.

Laurence McFalls
Representative-at-large (Quebec)

Laurence McFalls, a political science professor at Université de Montréal, was re-elected to his third term as representative-at-large (Quebec). McFalls is an active and long-term serving member of the Syndicat général des professeurs et professeures de l’Université de Montréal, where he served as treasurer. Previously, he served three terms on the university senate.

Robin Whitaker
Representative-at-large (General)

Robin Whitaker, an associate professor of anthropology at the Memorial University of Newfoundland, was re-elected to her third term on the executive committee as representative-at-large (general).

She has co-chaired the ad hoc working group on governance at CAUT since 2019, is member-at-large (East) with the National Union of CAUT (NUCAUT) and is the past president of the Memorial University of Newfoundland Faculty Association.

Serge Jolicœur
Representative-at-large (Francophone)

Serge Jolicoeur, a professor of history and geography at the Université de Moncton, was re-elected to his third term as representative-at-large (Francophone). Jolicoeur has been active in the Association des bibliothécaires, professeures et professeurs de l’Université de Moncton since 1992 and has served the association as president, vice-president external and treasurer.

Shirley Chau
Representative-at-large (General)

Shirley Chau was elected to a one-year term as representative-at-large (General). Chau, an associate professor at the School of Social Work at the University of British Columbia (Okanagan campus), is a member-at-large on the executive of the UBC Faculty Association and is also the co-chair of the Racial, Ethnic and Cultural Issues Caucus of the Canadian Association for Social Work Education.

Alison Hearn
Chair (Academic Freedom & Tenure)

Alison Hearn was re-elected to her second two-year term as chair of CAUT’s academic freedom and tenure committee. Hearn, an associate professor in the faculty of information and media studies at University of Western Ontario, has served as a member of the committee since 2015. She has also served as vice-president, president and past president of the University of Western Ontario Faculty Association.

Sue Blair
Chair (Collective Bargaining & Economic Benefits)

Sue Blair is serving her second two-year term as chair of CAUT’s collective bargaining and economic benefits committee. A professor of anthropology at the University of New Brunswick, she is a former president of the Association of University of New Brunswick Teachers and board member of the Federation of New Brunswick Faculty Associations.

Nick Papatheodorakos
Chair (Contract Academic Staff Committee)

Nick Papatheodorakos was elected to a two-year term as chair of the contract academic staff committee of CAUT. He served as a member of the Committee from 2019 to 2020. A part-time staff member at Concordia University in Montreal, Papatheodorakos has served as the external relations chair of the Concordia University Part-Time Faculty Association and as a grievance officer and chair of the bargaining committee at the McGill Course Lecturer and Instructors Union.

Susan Spronk
Co-Chair (Equity Committee)

Susan Spronk was elected to a two-year term as co-chair of the CAUT equity committee. Spronk, an associate professor of international development and global studies at the University of Ottawa, has been a member of the equity committee of CAUT since 2017.

She is a past president of the Association of Professors of the University of Ottawa and has served as a representative to the Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations.

Momin Rahman
Co-Chair, (Equity Committee)

Momin Rahman was elected in 2020 for a second two-year term as co-chair of the CAUT equity committee. A professor of sociology at Trent University, Rahman has played a leadership role at the Trent University Faculty Association (TUFA) on equity issues. From 2011 to 2014, Rahman chaired the constitutional review task force that produced recommendations for equity language and goals ultimately adopted by TUFA, and then he formed a subcommittee of the executive to advance equity issues.

Kate Cushon
Chair, Librarians’ and Archivists’ Committee

Kate Cushon was elected in 2020 to a two-year term as chair of the librarians’ and archivists’ committee of CAUT. She has been a member of the librarians’ and archivists’ committee since 2018.

A librarian with the University of Regina, Cushon has served in various capacities with the University of Regina Faculty Association including as vice chair of the grievance committee. She has successfully defended the interests of librarians and archivists during URFA’s bargaining with the University of Regina.
