Mount Saint Vincent University academic staff vote in favour of strike

The union representing 150 full-time faculty, professional librarians, and lab instructors at Mount Saint Vincent University has received a 93% mandate to strike if a deal is not reached in their latest round of negotiations.

Mount Saint Vincent University Faculty Association (MSVUFA) filed for conciliation on August 26 after talks stalled on key issues addressing the compensation gap between academic staff at MSVU and other post-secondary institutions in Nova Scotia.

“The strong mandate is a reflection of our collective demand that the Employer accord due respect to those who do the essential work of teaching, supervision, and research at the University,” said Linda Mann, MSVUFA President.

Women make up a greater percentage of academic staff at MSVU than at any other university in Canada.
