Following the events of 9/11, anti-terror laws were introduced that put civil liberties at risk and eliminated long-standing legal protections in Canada, the United States, Australia, Europe, and the United Kingdom.

Academic freedom fund

CAUT Council established the Academic Freedom Fund to aid local associations and CAUT in vigorous defence of academic freedom.

Universities that impose a faith or ideological test

Universities violate academic freedom when they require academic staff to commit to a particular ideology or statement of faith as a condition of employment. Under procedures adopted by Council, CAUT will investigate all cases where universities are alleged to impose a faith or ideological test.
