Members’ Rights During Strikes by Another Bargaining Unit

CAUT Policy Statement

1.    Where employees in another bargaining unit are on strike, academic staff members have the right to refuse to cross picket lines. Members who exercise this right should not be subject to disciplinary action.

2.    Members who choose to assist other employees by, for example, joining their picket lines or speaking in their support, should not be subject to disciplinary action, threats, intimidation or harassment.

3.    Members should not perform the work of striking employees; nor should they be expected to perform their own work in unsafe conditions.
