McGill law professors stage one-day strike as negotiations stall

(February 13, 2023) The Association of McGill Professors of Law (AMPL) is staging a one-day strike today as negotiations with the administration have stalled.

AMPL gave the McGill administration a deadline of February 8 to settle four key issues – valuing the contributions of Black and Indigenous staff, leaves, tenure, and financial exigency. Progress at the bargaining table has been slow and the administration was unwilling to meet again until late March.

The newly certified association is negotiating its first collective agreement. In December, AMPL members voted in favour of a strike mandate.

Students and staff from other unions will be joining AMPL on the picket lines in solidarity, the first faculty strike in McGill’s history.
