The Syndicat général des professeurs et professeures de l’Université de Montréal (SGPPUM) has reached a tentative agreement with the Université de Montréal (UdeM) administration following last ditch negotiations that ended shortly after midnight on Monday.
The deal averts a 12-day strike planned to begin on Monday. After more than a year of talks, members of SGPPUM voted 97 per cent in favour of a strike mandate last December.
SGPPUM was seeking to secure improvements to working conditions to support learning and research, active participation of members in decisions that have an impact on the university’s public mission, and salary gains. The U de M has the worst student-teacher ratio of all generalist universities in Quebec.
