Capilano U faculty take to the picket lines

Academic staff at Capilano University are on strike after contract talks hit an impasse over several key issues, including academic freedom and collegial governance.

”We have said from the outset of our negotiations that we were looking for a proposal from the University that addressed the principle of academic freedom, ensured a more democratic workplace and provided more certainty for our part-time and non-regular faculty members,” said Capilano University Faculty Association president Brent Calvert.

“To date, none of those issues have been addressed and that’s why we are taking job action.”

The Capilano University Faculty Association is a member of the Federation of Post-Secondary Educators of British Columbia.
