Four York University Senators and a member of its Academic Planning and Research Committee are seeking a judicial review of the university’s unilateral decision to suspend enrolments in 19 academic programs.
CAUT is co-counsel for the applicants who are asking that the Ontario Divisional Court rescind the suspensions and require the university to uphold the statutory authority of the senate.
The senate has responsibility over academic matters. “It is vital that academic governing bodies make decisions on matters of an academic and educational character,” said CAUT executive director David Robinson, in a March 21 statement.
