News / U of T returns Amazon cash after scrutiny

The University of Toronto is returning a $450,000 donation from Amazon after CAUT and the University of Toronto Faculty Association expressed concern. The gift appeared to violate U of T’s own policies as well as CAUT’s guidelines on university/corporate partnerships and academic integrity. CAUT policy requires that all donor agreements be available for public scrutiny, that any conflicts of interest involving sponsored research activities be declared, and that academic staff, not donors, oversee academic decisions.
