Solidarity rally for Nipissing faculty

Supporters of Nipissing University’s striking full-time faculty are rallying today in North Bay to call on the administration to return to the bargaining table.

The full-time faculty of the Nipissing University Faculty Association (NUFA) has been on strike for three weeks. Professors are looking for a salary deal that is comparable to similar universities and guarantees secure full-time jobs.

At a solidarity rally this morning in front of Progressive Conservative MPP Victor Fedeli’s constituency office, members of NUFA, Unifor, and CUPE were joined by CAUT Defence Fund members.

“It’s time for the administration to return to the table, to bargain in good faith, and find creative solutions to reach a fair deal,” said David Robinson, executive director of the Canadian Association of University Teachers.

“The academic community across the country is watching the dispute closely because the principles at stake in this dispute – democratic governance, fair pay, and job security – lie at the core of quality education,” he added.
