News / CAUT mobilizes academic staff over cuts

CAUT is rallying academic staff and allies to take part in its “stop the cuts” letter-writing campaign.

Years of declining public funding and a steep drop in international student enrolments due to the federal cap on visas have pushed many post-secondary institutions into a critical financial situation. Universities and colleges across the country are announcing enrolment suspensions, program cuts, hiring freezes and layoffs.

The “stop the cuts” letter is asking that all levels of government work together to fix the funding gap, including through a federal emergency fund to make up for the drop in international student enrolments at accredited public post-secondary institutions.
