News / Faculty on strike for the first time in McGill’s history

The Association of McGill Professors of Law (AMPL) staged a one-day strike on February 13, as negotiations to sign the union’s first collective agreement stalled, despite the intervention of a conciliator.

This is the first time in McGill’s 200-year history that full-time faculty have gone on strike.

AMPL received the support of students and academic staff associations from across the country on the picket lines and online.

The association became the first faculty union at McGill University when it won certification in a decision by Quebec’s administrative labour tribunal in November 2022.
