Collective Bargaining

Your collective agreement outlines the rights of your association’s members and the responsibilities of the administration. But negotiating an effective collective agreement requires preparation and practice.

In this 1-week course, participants will:  

  • Review Bargaining Basics
  • Examine the Legal Framework for Collective Bargaining their province
  • Analyze their current collective agreement;
  • Strategize how to communicate with their members and other stakeholders;
  • Plan on how to manage the negotiating process and stay organized
  • Identify best practices for preparing proposals and bargaining mandates;
  • Complete a simulation of a collective bargaining process.

The course will begin with a brief welcome webinar and a chance to review the online modules. You’ll then take part in two 3-hour webinars to review collective bargaining basics and tactics and take part in a simulation of a collective bargaining negotiation.

Following the completion of this course, a follow-up strategy session may be scheduled for your association with one of CAUT’s Senior Labour Relations Officers to address specific concerns and issues.
