The Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT) stands in solidarity with the Association of University Teachers (AUT) in Zimbabwe and its members who are struggling for decent working conditions, better salaries and dignity.

As a member of Education International (EI), the global federation representing over 33 million teachers and education workers in 180 countries, CAUT wrote to AUT President Dr. Chamburuka Phillemon Munyaradzi to support the AUT’s labour demands.

The letter urged the government and the University of Zimbabwe to “engage in dialogue with AUT without delay and address the legitimate concerns of university staff through binding negotiations.”

Together with EI member organizations in Zimbabwe, CAUT expressed its grave concerns about the worsening conditions and the decline in salary levels faced by academic staff at the University of Zimbabwe and other state universities.
