Members of the Association of Teaching Professors of the University of Ottawa (ATPUO) have overwhelmingly voted in favour of a strike mandate.
While ATPUO remains committed to reaching a negotiated settlement without a labour disruption, it says the vote sends a clear message to the administration that its members “no longer accept the status quo and that current conditions have become intolerable.”
The strike mandate follows more than a year of bargaining after the previous collective agreement expired on August 31, 2025.
The association is seeking improvements to basic working conditions and says the administration’s proposals would increase precarity and threaten the quality of education.
ATPUO represents teaching professors, including sessional lecturers, contractual language or music professors, lawyers, and clinical professionals in Health Sciences.
