December 6, 2024 – The Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT) marks the 35th anniversary of the mass murder at École Polytechnique in Montreal by reaffirming our commitment to fight gender-based violence, hatred and misogyny.

On this National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, we remember:

More than three decades after this massacre, gender-based violence remains a threat in universities, colleges and society as a whole – including the hate-motivated stabbing at the University of Waterloo.

This year, the adoption of the International Labour Organization Convention 190 on violence and harassment in the workplace, marks an important milestone in the fight to make workplaces safer for everyone.
