The Dalhousie Faculty Association (DFA) has reached a tentative agreement with the university administration after last-minute negotiations concluded just after midnight on Tuesday, September 16.
Pending ratification by DFA members and the university’s board of governors, the deal ends a month-long lockout that disrupted classes and other services. Close to 1,000 faculty, librarians, counsellors and instructors were locked out.
Since May, DFA members have been fighting for improvements to workload, job security, childcare support and salaries that reflect the rising cost of living in Nova Scotia. Their efforts drew national solidarity, with academic staff from across Canada joining picket lines in Halifax and Truro.
A joint statement from the DFA and the university administration states that updates on fall term dates, deadlines, exams and return-to-class protocols will be shared shortly.
