July 8, 2025 – Members of the Dalhousie Faculty Association (DFA) have voted overwhelmingly in favour of a strike amid stalled contract negotiations.
“Our members have sent a strong message and we expect the Board to listen,” said DFA President David Westwood in a statement.
More than 91% of participating members supported the strike mandate, with a turnout of 85.5% across the union.
The DFA is urging the Dalhousie Board of Governors to return to the bargaining table, criticizing the Board’s early request for conciliation after just four rounds of negotiations last May.
Faculty demands include wage adjustments to reflect cost-of-living increases, protections for full-time jobs, and fair workloads.
Conciliation is scheduled to begin later this month.
The DFA represents more than 1,000 professors, instructors, librarians and professional counsellors at Dalhousie University.
