September 5, 2025 — Academic staff from across Canada will be joining nearly 1,000 Dalhousie University faculty, librarians, counsellors and instructors on the picket lines today as the lockout enters its third week.
CAUT President Robin Whitaker will be visiting the picket line in Halifax and will take part in a noon hour rally. She will be joined by members of the CAUT Defence Fund, a national strike fund that is providing benefits to the locked-out members of the Dalhousie Faculty Association (DFA).
Students have also come out in solidarity with the university’s academic staff. The Dalhousie Student Union council has voted to support the DFA’s members, citing concerns about the lockout’s impact on student and faculty well-being.
DFA members have been locked out since August 20. Key issues include salaries, workload, job security and childcare. The DFA and the university administration have agreed to restart conciliation talks on September 8.
