Carleton University's Academic Staff Association has voted to join the National Union of the Canadian Association of University Teachers (NUCAUT), becoming the thirteenth association to do so. Carleton joins Bishop's, Memorial, Mount Saint Vincent, Cape Breton, Mount Allison, York, Windsor, Laurentian, Algoma, Winnipeg, Athabasca and CIEA/BC. This brings the membership of NUCAUT to more than 10,000. NUCAUT was issued its CLC charter in March 2002, after the Canadian Labour Congress Executive Council and a strong majority of national unions supported NUCAUT's admission. NUCAUT will hold its first convention June 8-9 in Vancouver, and will send 25 delegates to the CLC convention immediately following it.
