As part of the May Council meeting CAUT honoured the work of its Executive Director Don Savage. The meeting incorporated both an international conference and celebatory dinner.
The Conference on "Academic Freedom, Politics, and the Future of the University," topics near and dear to Don Savage, involved speakers and participants from three continents and six countries.
Later that day, 175 Council members and guests convened at the Chateau Laurier for the retirement dinner in Don Savage's honour.
During "La Fête Sauvage" past presidents of CAUT disclosed stories about Don as funny as they were revealing. They were joined by members of staff, a musical chorus (including members of the CAUT Executive and the "Maritime Mafia"), and Don’s family and friends.
CAUT has been built by the members, Don would say. But as Gilbert and Sullivan would reply, "He is the very model...."
