Message from the CAUT President

Welcome to Solidarity or Bust: Resisting the Corporatization of Libraries and Archives, the 2025 CAUT Librarians and Archivists conference. From their frontline position in the fight against open and covert efforts to enclose and censor public scholarship and shared knowledge and the commercial surveillance and data mining of library use, librarians and archivists are critical to the resistance. This conference promises both to enliven and to provide essential tools for building the solidarity we need in these times. Thank you for participating.

Message from the Chair of the CAUT Librarians' & Archivists Committee

This year’s program emphasizes resisting corporatization—a term that encompasses a broad set of practices that marginalize the critical and essential voices of librarians and archivists across our workplaces. That is why this conference goes beyond advocating for better salaries, manageable workloads, and improved working conditions.

Resisting corporatization also means increasing access to decision-making and affirming dignity in our roles. It is about ensuring that the voices of those who educate students, support research, make collections accessible, advocate for open access, and carry out the many responsibilities of union workers are heard and respected. Above all, the next two days are dedicated to challenging systems that silence our collective voice and weaken our power—and to building the solidarity we need to win.
