Racial Justice

CAUT Policy Statement

The Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT) is committed to supporting justice for groups who experience discrimination in the academy due to racialization and racism.

Such groups include but are not limited to Indigenous peoples and racialized people or those identified as non-white. A commitment to racial justice begins with an acknowledgement of inequity based on racialization and it demands proactive redress of systemic discrimination.

CAUT promotes and supports actions to eliminate racial discrimination through the systems and practices that perpetuate racial injustice. Through these efforts, CAUT strives to educate and empower members of CAUT and its affiliates to challenge systemic racial inequities in access to education, hiring and promotion, governance, various forms of contributions to knowledge and other processes in the post-secondary education institutions.

Approved by CAUT Council, November 2019.
