An arbitrator has awarded members of the University of Toronto Faculty Association (UTFA) a 3% salary increase for the period of July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2027, ending a contentious round of negotiations.
UTFA argued the university’s proposed 1.5% increase would amount to a real wage cut by failing to keep pace with inflation and compensation levels at other U15 institutions. The union had sought a 4.9% increase.
In the ruling, the arbitrator concluded that a 3% increase was “appropriate in all the circumstances,” citing inflation and the need to maintain the university’s position at the top of the market.
