More than a year after bargaining began for a first collective agreement, members of the Association of McGill Professors of Education (AMPE) have unanimously approved a limited strike mandate.
The vote authorizes the union to launch a strike of up to five days if deemed necessary. AMPE, a member of the Confederation of Faculty Associations of McGill, was certified in November 2024.
The union is seeking stronger protections for academic freedom, fair tenure and promotion processes, better working conditions for contract academic staff, and salaries comparable to those at peer universities.
