On October 3 and 4, librarians and archivists from across the country convened in Ottawa for CAUT’s Librarians’ and Archivists’ Conference. The theme this year was “Solidarity or Bust: Resisting the Corporatization of Libraries and Archives.”
Topics ranged from confronting corporatization and artificial intelligence to reclaiming collegial governance and advancing equity and solidarity.
Keynote speakers Kelly McElroy and Meredith Kahn, co-authors of Organize Your Library!, outlined a roadmap for building democratic, member-led unions that protect equity and professional autonomy.
In her remarks, CAUT President Robin Whitaker called for unity around shared values. Jennifer Dekker, Chair of CAUT’s Librarians’ and Archivists’ Committee, stressed the need to continue to build solidarity and engage in collective action.
