On July 10, the Alberta Court of Appeal granted the Canadian Association of University Teachers, the University of Calgary Faculty Association, and the Canadian Association of Law Teachers intervenor status in a Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act case involving the University of Calgary.

The case arose when the university refused to grant access to certain faculty records because they fell within the teaching and research exceptions of Alberta’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

The intervenors aim to ensure that the court’s decision acknowledges the essential link between academic freedom and participatory teaching and research.
