Article 3: Policy and Practice

3.1 It is the intent of this Agreement, particularly in Articles 15 to 23 and others, to embody principles rather than details of specific policies or practices. There may be instances where current policies of the University including, but not limited to, those found in the Faculty Policies Handbook, and Terms and Conditions of Employment for Professional Librarians and the Research Policies and Information Handbook may appear to be inconsistent with the principles of this Agreement. The University and the Association agree that, where cases of disagreement occur, the principles which are established in this Agreement will have precedence.

3.2 The Parties agree that the Joint Faculty Policies Committee will give the highest priority to ensuring that all aspects of faculty policies are consistent with the principles that are established in this Agreement. Further, it is agreed that all issues which arise from inconsistencies between current faculty policies and the principles established in this Agreement will be referred to the Joint Consultative Committee.

3.2 The Parties agree that the Standing Committee on Librarians’ Policies will give the highest priority to ensuring that all aspects of librarians’ policies are consistent with the principles that are established in this Agreement. Further it is agreed that all issues which arise from inconsistencies between current librarians’ policies and the principles established in this Agreement will be referred to the Joint Committee on Librarians’ Policies.
