Article 22: Study/Research Leave
22.1 The University Study/Research Leave policy enables faculty members to enhance their quality as scholars, teachers and researcher and thus is essential to the teaching and research programs of the University of Guelph.
22.2 University policy and practice must ensure that equal and adequate opportunity for Study/Research Leave exists for all tenured faculty members. In particular it is the University’s responsibility to ensure that appropriate financial and staffing arrangements are made to fulfill the teaching, library, administrative, extension and University of Guelph contractual research responsibilities normally assumed by a faculty member awarded leave.
Normally all of the resources required to provide for Study/Research Leave for its members will be found within the Department. A leave which has been approved by a Department Committee cannot be delayed, in consideration of Departmental needs and priorities, for a period exceeding two years. For small Departments, Section 3.07 of the Faculty Policy on Study/Research leave will apply.
22.3 University policy and practice recognizes the right and obligation of librarians to continue the development of their scholarship and professional competence. Specific conditions for academic and professional development or research leave are set forth in “Terms and Conditions of Employment for Professional Librarians”, Section B.6.6; B9; and B.9.1 (with the exception of B.9.2.)
