Health & Safety Committee (H&S)

Jurisdiction

The H&S Committee is an internal Faculty Association Committee which is responsible for monitoring Health and Safety on Campus. The Chair sits on the Joint Health & Safety Committee, Executive and Council.

Responsibilities

The Committee helps to maintain high standards of health and safety in the various workplaces at the University of Guelph. It must also maintain a vigilance to prevent unnecessary and unwarranted interference in the laboratory activities of faculty on Campus and at the associated research stations as their grants and careers are at stake whenever something happens which diminishes their productivity in terms of research output and the publication of papers. It is important that the committee work toward achieving a proper balance between the need to work safety and the need to get work done.

The H&S Committee will work with the EHS to develop mutually acceptable policies which apply to our research laboratories.

Membership

The seven regular members of the H&S Committee are appointed by Council from those nominated by the Chair. There shall be one member from each College and the Library. Membership is for one year term with possible reappointments. The Committee may, at its discretion, co-opt alternate or additional members from the membership of the Association.
