Top researchers to discuss federal underfunding of university research at CAUT’s national council meeting

The plenary panel discussion will begin at 2:30 p.m. on April 23, 2009 in the
- W.R. Peltier, University Professor and Professor of Physics, and Director of the Centre for Global Change Science at the University of Toronto
- Ryan T. McKay, Scientific Director of the National High Field Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Centre at the University of Alberta; and
- Marjorie Griffin Cohen, Professor of Political Science at Simon Fraser University.
CAUT’s Council meeting, held twice a year, brings together over 100 representatives of academic staff associations from across Canada.
CAUT has been at the forefront of efforts to convince the government to safeguard the integrity of academic research in Canada by increasing basic research funding to the granting councils and ensuring that programs and scholarships funded by the granting agencies, are judged on the basis of merit by the scientific community instead of being restricted to specific fields by the government.
