CAUT Executive positions

Nominations are being actively sought for election to the CAUT Executive Committee, namely:

    President
    Vice-President
    Chair of the Academic Freedom & Tenure Committee
    Chair of the Contract Academic Staff Committee
    Co-Chairs of the Equity and Diversity Council (2)
    Member at Large representing Quebec
    Member at Large representing Aboriginal
    Member at Large representing Francophones
    General Members-at-large (2 positions)

In order to maintain the effectiveness of CAUT as an organization, it is extremely important that well qualified members are nominated. Nominations of members of marginalized groups are encouraged. These groups include but are not limited to Aboriginal peoples; women; racialized academic staff; academic staff with disabilities; and lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgendered and queer and two-spirited academic staff. Elections will take place at the CAUT Council meeting in Ottawa April 25-28, 2013. The deadline for receiving nominations is March 1, 2013.

They should include:

    a)    A letter of nomination;
    b)    A brief statement of why the nominator feels the nominee is qualified to serve;
    c)    The agreement of the nominee to serve if elected; and
    d)    A completed copy of the attached "Standard Information Form".

Description of Positions

The President

Responsible for guiding the affairs of the Association between meetings of Council and for ensuring that policies approved by Council are implemented.  A nominee for the position of President should have had considerable experience in academic staff association affairs at the local level.

The Vice-President

Responsible for assisting the President with his or her responsibilities and undertaking other duties as decided by the Executive Committee.

Chair of the Academic Freedom & Tenure Committee

Responsible for chairing the Academic Freedom and Tenure Committee and undertaking other duties as decided by the Officers and Executive Committee. A nominee for the position of Chair of AF&T should have considerable experience in dealing with academic freedom issues and shall normally have served at least one year on the Committee.

Chair of the Contract Academic Staff Committee

Responsible for chairing the Contract Academic Staff Committee and undertaking other duties as decided by the Officers and Executive Committee. A nominee for the position of Chair of the CAS Committee should have considerable knowledge of and experience in dealing with contract academic staff issues and shall normally have served at least one year on the Committee.

Co-Chairs of the Equity & Diversity Council (2)

Responsible for co-chairing the Equity and Diversity Council and undertaking other duties as decided by the Officers and Executive Committee. A nominee for the position of Co-Chair of the Equity and Diversity Council should have considerable experience and involvement with at least one of the following groups — racialized people, people with disabilities, women, and LGBTQ2S (lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgendered, queer, and 2-spirited). A nominee shall normally have served at least one year on a CAUT committee or working group. At least one of the Co-Chairs must be a woman.

Member at Large representing Quebec

Responsible for undertaking duties as decided by the Officers and the Executive Committee.

Member at Large representing Aboriginal Academic Staff

Responsible for undertaking duties as decided by the Officers and the Executive Committee. Will serve as the Executive liaison to the Aboriginal Post-Secondary Education Working Group.

Member at Large representing Francophones

Responsible for undertaking duties as decided by the Officers and the Executive Committee. Will serve as the Executive liaison to the Executive’s Francophones Committee.

General Members-at-large (2)

Responsible for undertaking duties as decided by the Officers and the Executive Committee.
