Protecting the health, safety and dignity of research participants is an over-riding imperative for the academic community. To achieve this goal, research must be conducted with the highest ethical standards and best possible rules. Unfortunately, the growing influence of market forces on universities and colleges, and concomitant attacks on academic freedom, threaten to undermine participant well-being and the quest for knowledge.
CAUT is committed to safeguarding participant welfare, in part by ensuring that researchers can conduct their work in accordance with the principles of academic freedom. We lobby government agencies to ensure the voice of academic staff is heard in the formulation of new ethics policy.
