Freedom to Publish

The freedom to share information is basic to advances in scholarship, education and research. While most universities ostensibly support that freedom in policy statements, the majority allow funders to restrict publication for extended periods of time in a variety of circumstances.

Where we stand

CAUT believes that freedom to publish the results of academic research must be meaningfully protected in collective agreement language and institutional policy. Attempts by governments, corporations or any other funders to suppress academic research results are unacceptable and must not be allowed.
