Better Funding

Canada's post-secondary education system has faced a steep decline in public funding. The result has been skyrocketing tuition fees, a reduction in the number of full-time faculty, larger class sizes, fewer course offerings, diminished library holdings, and a deteriorating infrastructure.

Where we stand

CAUT is actively lobbying the federal government to boost cash transfers to the provinces and to introduce a separate stand-alone fund for post-secondary education. The fund would be set at 0.5% of GDP. It would be governed by a Post-Secondary Education Act, modelled on the Canada Health Act that would outline responsibilities for the federal and provincial governments, establish national guidelines and principles, and guarantee long-term and stable federal funding.
