UNIVERSITY
CLUB NEWS
The University Club just keeps getting better. The latest improvements to the facility include a new tile floor and paint in the bar area, a redecorated dining area / piano room, and completion of the trim paint throughout the facility. The piano room has been dedicated to one of the founders of the UClub, Professor Jack Sheriff, and his portrait can be found there. The social highlight of the fall term so far was the Hallowe’en masquerade and murder mystery. Congratulations to winners Joy “Arrrr-Billy” Auton and Barb “I-See-Dead-People” Moore. A pool tournament is ongoing, and TGIFs continue to provide a welcome opportunity to unwind at the end of a busy week, although from this day forward anyone who so much as mentions the strategic plan has to buy a round (at least in that venue). In fact there is someone there almost every weekday after 4:00, so feel free to find a member and drop by when you feel inclined.
A welcome addition to the Club has been the fantastic food provided by chef Karlheinz Szielasko of Culinary Concepts catering in Halifax. We plan to host one catered lunch each month beginning in the new year, as well as the occasional dinner. Three lunches and one dinner were held in November to rave reviews, and Karl’s catering menu is available at the Club.
An upcoming event of note is the annual family holiday party on December 16: an emerging Acadia tradition that is not to be missed! Everyone is welcome. Check the website (ace.acadiau.ca/auclub) for details. We also look forward to a full slate of December holiday parties as usual. If you are interested in booking the Club for your departmental event, call the House Manager at 542-9543 for availability and details.
Speaking of the website, it is updated regularly so that you can keep abreast of upcoming events, meals, and TGIFs at ace.acadiau.ca/auclub. We are listed under “Campus Resources” just above “User Support” (alphabetically, of course).
As always, we welcome your ideas and suggestions for events, facilities, or any other aspect of the Club. Feel free to contact any member of the executive (ace.acadiau.ca/auclub/people.html). We are currently accepting donations of leather furniture if anyone is feeling charitable.
