AUFA
DEMOCRATIC CITIZENSHIP STUDENT AWARD
The first annual AUFA Democratic Citizenship Student Award was presented at the AUFA Annual General Meeting in April. The award committee was faced with an extremely difficult decision, given the high quality of the candidates this year. This year’s recipient of the award is Michael Marin. Michael has been an outstanding student leader and a strong advocate for student rights. Michael has played an important role in student government as Executive Vice President of the ASU. He has also spear-headed a campaign to improve Financial Aid for students at Acadia University. Michael not only conducted extensive research and prepared a document addressing the issue of Financial Aid at Acadia, but also formulated a proposal for an ASU Bursary program. Michael has also been extremely active in a number of student lobby groups, including CASA and NSSAC. Michael’s hard work and dedication to student issues clearly embodies the spirit of the AUFA Democratic Citizenship Student Award. Please join with me in congratulating Michael and wishing him well as he begins his Master’s program in Ottawa this fall.
