MADNESS
AND PROPELLOR
The University Club is pleased to have been
able to host the March Madness 8-Ball and Shuffleboard tournaments this past
spring. Johnathon
"Fast Eddie" Fowles put away "Cue Ball Bobi"
Perrins in the 8-Ball final before 20 or so cheering patrons. Paul "Ace" Stephenson buried Doug
"Sluggo" Symons in the shuffleboard final
in front of an enraptured audience of two.
Unfortunately all of the tickets for the latter event had been taken up
by scalpers, and patrons had difficulty accessing the Games room. These will definitely be annual events.
On a different front, The University Club now has selfserve Propellor beer. Propellor Brewing Company, a microbrewery on Gottigen Street, was established and is owned by John Allen, who graduated from Acadia with a B.Sc in Biology in 1978. The beer is of the self tap variety, and a pale ale and bitter are now available for patrons and their guests. There is a great debate at the Club about whether to keep the draft upstairs (and have to keep running up to get some) or downstairs (and keep running down to get some). It is good to hear that U. Club members are concerned with running and exercise regimens in general as a means of stress reduction and increasing their research/teaching/administration efficiencies.
Of course, many more serious things have been held at the University Club, such as seminars, negotiating meetings, retirement dinners, department events, and even some workshops. My two-year run as President of the Club ends next week. It has been a pleasure.
